Such a great list of books!!! I remember the waiting list at the school library for Judy Blum’s book, felt like forever when I finally got to check it out ❤️📕

Thanks, Marjorie! It was so hard not to include every book on the shelf; so many great reads! Made the choice to go with those I’d read more than once! That’s always a great indicator that the book or author had an impact. Being on the list to check out a library book made for some highly anticipated reads! Sometimes, I think we were actually pretty fortunate to have that experience over instant gratification. We appreciated things more and maybe even our enjoyment of them was elevated. Thanks for sharing your book experience! Happy reading memories!

Many blessings and MUCH LOVE,

Love it, Joan! The books we've read surely had to kindle the writing flame in us and contribute to our being here. May we have opportunity to share our spark with others! Thank you for stopping by for the read and sharing. It means so much.

To Kill a Mockingbird. Hell yeah. I watched Are you there, God? It's me Margaret on a plane last year and loved it. My wife thought it was hilarious, but I'd read the book too if I came across it. Outsiders, Rumble Fish, Maya Angelou yes yes yes

I LOVE that you watched Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret, Nate B! I actually haven't seen the film! I had forgotten it was made into a movie; now I have something to add to my summer watch list! It is a wonderful read as well! So nice to find connection through, not just what we write, but with our beginnings as young readers. Any title I didn't share, that you have on your list of favorites? I am always looking for books to get for the grandkids to enjoy, and to be honest, I still fancy a young adult novels from time to time! Appreciate that you stopped by to read and share!

Many blessings and MUCH LOVE,

Ah, YES! Shel Silverstein! Also, loved The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the Rats of NIMH! Oh, the Rats of NIMH is a beloved favorite; I don’t know how I forgot to include it! Now, I have not read John Bellairs. The House with a Clock in Its Walls sounds intriguing and mysterious. I will look for it! Thanks! 😊💜

John Bellairs (among others) may have inspired J.K.R. and Harry Potter.

I had soooo many horse and pony books! I was obsessed with horses. Until chronic illness dragged me from the saddle of my beautiful Dominic, my dressage horse, five years ago (with a few desperate attempts to try again since) I rode all my life. I had all The Black Stallion series that I read in French, and still have a few copies. When I visited my grandmother in England I would spend hours in the local bookshop, browsing, reading, checking my change to see how many I could afford! I remember Charlotte’s Web of course. And wasn’t there one called Seventeenth Summer? Much later of course! I read Ballet Shoes, and I lived all the Famous Five books. So many memories. Thank you, Wendy 🙏❤️

Oh, I love it, Francesca! Horse lovers are often spirited readers! That horse energy spills from us! Like you, health has given detour to the riding, but what is lovely, still, is being transported to those days when you couldn't get us off a horse just by picking up one of our old favorites. I was obsessed with The Black Stallion as well! Think I would have gladly become ship wrecked in order to be gloriously stuck on an island with a magnificent horse!

I see some titles that I haven't read in your list: Ballet Shoes, Famous Five Books. I will need to check these out! (I am never too old to read a good young adult book!) As for Seventeenth Summer, I do remember the title, but not the story. I think I may have it on one of my shelves, so a reintroduction is in my future. Thank you for sharing your memories and your favorites, Francesca! Just makes my eyes twinkle thinking of our youthful joy of reading. 😍📚😊

Many blessings and MUCH LOVE,

The Black Stallion movie was filmed in Sardinia (or was it Corsica? I think Sardinia), and I must have seen it twenty times. Such beautiful cinematography, especially the island bit. The Famous Five is quintessentially English, adventure stories by Enid Blyton. Very old fashioned now, for sure :) Did you ride a lot too?

You are right, it was Sardinia! Such a beautiful place! Seems we both have watched this one about as many times! Every one of our grandkids has had the privalege to watch it with me! Haha! I did ride a LOT! Always said I was nearly born on a horse! My grandparents had a large ranch in central Montana and our summers were spent there with every day being horseback. In my teens, we had horses and I bought my first when I was 13, a mare named Brandy. She was with me into my 20s when she passed. I still had her son, Chicago, and moved him to Texas with me. Sadly, he passed several years ago. Here is the poem I shared about him: https://tobelivinpoetryandprose.substack.com/p/telstars-high-chicago. We sure miss him. I am so glad you still have your horse, Dominic. There is nothing quite like an equine companion.

I will look for Enid's books. My sister-in-law may even have some as my husband and family lived in England when they were kids; stationed there with the U.S. Air Force. That will definitely be an ask during our next phone call! Well, this love of books and horses has take us on quite a nostalgic journey. Glad of it! Thank you, Francesca!

Blessings and MUCH LOVE,

~Wendy💜
