Solstice Poems—2: 'Something in a Song'
Published by IGNU ©1994 in Solstice 3 {*Revised in 2024}
Something in a Song
I asked you once
The significance of a song.
You told me,
'It could represent a moment,
A piece of time.'
The music surrounded us
And the words would never
Be the same.
I will walk down the aisle
Of a grocery store one day,
The song will play,
And I will hum along
Without conscious recognition.
But, I will notice a change—
In my skin,
In my stomach,
In the deepest place…
My body will remember
What the song is trying to tell.
I will go home, lie in bed,
And help myself regain
Those memories etched so deep within my soul…
Then, in a sultry instant,
It will come to me;
Realizing that you
Were so right.
