Solstice Poems—1: 'Color Pictures'

Color Pictures A tear falls so close to my heart, No one sees it. Yet, I feel it trickle down Into the very depths of my soul. Here, it washes my wounds With its salty caresses And I cry out With the voice of a mother. My sobs begin In a breath holding crescendo. Each for a memory I can never hold on to. If only the visions Would allow me to touch them, I might sleep without longing For more memories of him. Tears flow on As each day passes. Trying to forget The way that he left us. Wanting desperately to change it, I grasp for the past. Death is not the tragedy That took him, But the fading memories That I know will slip away. I’ll always be looking back. But, Color pictures--- They fade with time, And I have never seen the world In black and white. W.Hertz--1990
This is very sad, but profound. I love that I was able to picture everything I read. Then, to hear your voice reading it was even more powerful! Thank you for sharing this! It's truly touching!!
