Crash—1: Another Melrose Bar Memory
The nightmare began long before we arrived, with no leathers or helmets, at Melrose Bar...
Crash—1
Leaving Melrose Bar, more... safely, after cups of coffee covered vodka. Fading evening light, purple haze; blanket over us. Floating down black asphalt path to dark dreams, feeling air temperature changes. Hair held back with wind bands; My heart beat. Held close: breath of freedom, speed, trust in you; safety of your soul. Never felt fear. Have never felt fear as time flew by and future held on with just my hands. I hugged you close. I didn't want you to let me go. Letting me go... dreams turned into flash of—life, and death. I was comfortable, not breathing, but panicked by the sound of yours. Searching for you, in blackness, barbed wire, and brush. Finding color red fluorescent and first time fears only of losing you; losing touch with you. I placed my lips on your blood doused cheek. You opened your eyes, to focus on mine, and our time stood still. Knowing then, that I was going to love you. And when days passed, voices crossed lines, and feelings pulsed through hands light touch. Strength was given with arms, around me. You were still alive. Knowing— Too soon— I was loving you. Once again, moving down dark highways, that my heart now fears traveling. Fears— wanting to feel once again trust in you; safety of your soul held close. As time, again, flies by and I long to take another ride with you. To ride with you on the road to dreams— But, I can't, because next time— I will die. W-Gray, Summer 1996
Hello all and sundry,
There was SO much to this nightmarish time during the summer of ‘96….other ‘Crash’ and Melrose Bar related poems and a prose post coming up…look for them in the next week.
Kismet has shown itself, at least it felt that way: the crash occurred July 1st of 1996 and here I was working on writing the prose accompaniment to the Crash poems on Monday—July 1st. That just really ‘struck’ me, there are no coincidences, really. Are there?
Many Blessings and MUCH LOVE,
W-Gray
